Cupcakestravaganza 2011!

Nobody really knows why or where our craze for cupcakes started around here and we don’t really care.  We just appreciate that we’re a bit nuts for those sweet little morsels and run with it.  No judgment, just pure satisfaction.  I have to say, sometimes when some of us know that there are cupcakes in the office, they find it hard to concentrate. And who can blame them?

We’re lucky to live and work in a city with such a wealth of fine cupcake establishments.  Unfortunately we had been a slave to tradition and had been getting our birthday and special occasion cupcakes from the same place, “Hello Cupcake” in Dupont almost exclusively (and what fine cupcakes they are!).  We had been ignoring the plethora of options available to us.  So we hatched a plan.  Cupcakestravaganza 2011 was born!  We were going to get a selection of product from vendors across the city and do a companywide taste test.  But more than a highly organized competition, this was going to be celebration of all things cupcake.

On the special day, we acquired 4 cupcakes each from these bakeries in Washington: Hello Cupcake in Dupont, Georgetown Cupcake in Georgetown, Cake Love in Silver Spring, Baked and Wired in Georgetown, Sprinkles in Georgetown, and Red Velvet in Penn Quarter.
