Exponent is one of the world's premier engineering and scientific consulting firms. Since 1967, their scientists, engineers, and consultants have investigated history-changing accidents and advanced public safety. They wanted a digital platform that made it easier for the right people to find them.

From the start, the ask was to reach a broader swath of potential clients. “I didn't know Exponent did that” was a phrase they wanted to put into customers' minds. At the same time, Exponent mandated us to attract top-tier talent who desired meaningful, mission-driven work. But the information architecture made it hard for clients and recruits to find what they needed, and the platform lacked the flexibility to scale with a firm of Exponent's depth.

We partnered with Exponent to clarify their brand story of innovation and scientific progress supported through a custom Drupal build.

The focus

Exponent’s expertise and proven track record needed a digital home that made their work and services findable and clearly demonstrated they are the ones solving some of the world’s toughest problems.

Our strategy

We started with a clear directive to create a site that focused on Exponent’s priority audiences: clients and future talent.

Defining the brand story. Exponent's reputation was well established, but it wasn’t as clearly articulated in their digital presence. We developed a refined voice, visual system, and messaging framework that brought the firm's depth and precision to the surface, giving clients and recruits a consistent, credible first impression across every page.

Connecting people to expertise. At the heart of the new site is a custom Drupal platform built for discoverability. A custom API dynamically surfaces expert bios, and a Meilisearch-powered search helps users quickly find the right expertise for the right challenge. Hundreds of pages were rebuilt to showcase Exponent's multidisciplinary advantage and the people behind it.

Speaking directly to future talent. In discovery, one critical insight emerged: Exponent's most important audience wasn't only clients. It was the scientists, engineers, and problem solvers looking for their next challenge. We built a dedicated Careers experience that leads with what makes Exponent different, including cross-disciplinary work, access to world-class colleagues, and a culture built around curiosity and flexibility. Testimonials, employee spotlights, and clear differentiators now turn interest into applications.

Building for the long term. To support Exponent's team beyond launch, we created an intuitive design system covering color, typography, photography, and iconography, paired with a flexible page and component system. The goal was a platform where their team could manage and grow without needing to start from scratch every time.

The results

The new Exponent site launched as a unified platform that reflected the importance of their multidisciplinary strategic work and the caliber of their experts. Clients can now find the right expert or insight with far less friction, and prospective talent meets a Careers experience that speaks to what makes Exponent a distinctive and desirable place to work. The W3 Awards also took notice, recognizing our work with a silver award for consulting sites. Most importantly, our work helped close the gap between Exponent's reputation and their digital presence.
